PK-K: How to Apply

Complete the Online Application in the Parent Portal

Please click here to start the online application. Once the online application and the application fee is submitted, please use the online checklist in the parent portal as a guide to submit the Parent Questionnaire and a copy of the applicant's birth certificate. Please submit all of these items in the online parent portal by December 14th of last year.

Schedule Testing and Group Observation

TEST I, GRADES PK-K: Test I is administered individually by Collaborative Academic Testing Services (CATS). You may register your child at www.catstexas.com. Test results may be shared with other schools where the student is applying. There is $290 registration fee.

Group Observation, GRADES PK-K: Your daughter will be observed in a group setting at Hockaday. Once your daughter's application is submitted, you may schedule (in the parent portal) a Developmental Age Assessment on a Saturday between December - February.

Submit School Records Form to your Daughter's Registrar

After you have submitted the online application, please locate the School Records Release Form in the parent portal checklist or by clicking here and click on 'Edit this Request'. You will have the opportunity to enter the email address of the school administrator who is responsible for grades, school records, or progress reports at your daughter’s current school. This will allow the school to upload your daughter‘s school records directly to the student application file. Note: if your child is applying to prekindergarten or kindergarten and the school does not issue school records, the form will allow the official to indicate that. This checklist item will be marked complete once the records have been received by Hockaday. The deadline for the receipt of your child’s school records, if available, is January 27th of current year.

Return Teacher Evaluations by January 27th of current year

Please provide your daughter's current teacher's name and email address on the Teacher Information Form on the online application. Hockaday will use this information to send an online confidential Teacher Evaluation to your daughter's current teacher. Teacher Evaluations should be received by January 27th of current year.

Schedule a Parent Interview

This appointment can be scheduled in your parent portal after the application is submitted. The interview should be completed or scheduled by January 27th of current year.

Schedule a Visit to Hockaday

(Optional) We invite you to attend a Lower School Parent Visit Day. If you are unable to attend one of these events and reside outside of the Dallas Metroplex, please call the Office of Admission at 214-360-6524 and we will try to arrange another opportunity for you to visit the school.

Please note that students applying for Prekindergarten for the current and next school year must be four years old by September 1st of current year. Notifications of the admission decision will be emailed March 13th of current yearto those applicants who have met all deadlines.

Grades 1-4: How to Apply

Schedule Two Testing Dates

TEST I, GRADE 1: Test I is administered individually by Collaborative Academic Testing Services (CATS). You may register your child at www.catstexas.com. Test results may be shared with other schools where the student is applying. There is $290 registration fee.

TEST II, GRADE 1: Test II is the Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners (AABL) offered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Here are some "what to expect" videos that may be helpful for parents to watch to learn more about the AABL. Students may test at The Hockaday School or at any of the other schools participating in the Dallas Area Independent Schools Common Testing Program. Once your daughter's application is submitted, please select the testing date in the parent portal. A testing registration code will populate in the parent portal. You will use this code to register online at www.iseetest.org.

GRADES 2-4: The only required assessment is the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE), which can be taken on either January 9 or January 22nd of next year, at Hockaday or one of the other Dallas area schools participating in the Dallas Area Independent Schools Common Testing Program. Once your daughter's application is submitted, please select the testing date in the parent portal. The test registration code for the ISEE will populate in the parent portal. You will use this code to register online for the ISEE at www.iseetest.org. Please include the $120 test fee with your registration. Test results will be sent from ISEE to the parents and the selected schools.

Schedule Parent Interviews

If your child has not previously applied to Hockaday, please schedule a parent interview in the parent portal.

We invite you to schedule a time to visit the school during an Admission Preview and/or a Parent Visitation Day. (You may register in the parent portal or RSVP online.) If you are unable to attend one of these events and you live outside of the Dallas Metroplex, please call the Office of Admission and we will try to arrange another opportunity for you to visit the school.

Application Deadline

Admission decision notifications will be emailed on March 12th of next year, to all applicants who have completed their applications by January 29th of next year.

Schedule a Student Interview and Optional Shadow Day Visit

Once the application has been submitted, please schedule the student interview and optional student visit in the parent portal. Please note the interview is required, and the shadow visit is optional. While on campus during the shadow visit, her interview will be completed. Please visit this page to view the available shadow visit dates. If the applicant lives outside of Dallas and is not able to visit the campus, the Office of Admission will arrange a Skype or WebEx conferencing interview.

Boarding applicants should contact Molly Averitt in the Office of Admission to arrange both a parent and a student interview.

Schedule ISEE Testing

Hockaday uses the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). The student may register directly with ISEE. Please include the test fee of $120 with that registration. For ISEE information and registration, please call 1-800-446-0320 or register online at www.iseetest.org. She may take the ISEE at a Prometric Center if the scheduled testing dates do not work with her schedule.

The ISEE will be offered at Hockaday on January 9th of next year, and January 23rd of next year.

Submit the Transcript Release Form to Current School

Once you have submitted your daughter's application, please locate the Transcript Release Form in the parent portal checklist or by clicking here and click on 'Edit this Request.' You will have the opportunity to enter the email address of the school administrator who is responsible for grades, transcripts, or progress reports at your daughter's current school. This will allow the school to upload your daughter's transcripts directly to the student application file. This checklist item will be marked complete once the transcripts have been received by Hockaday. The deadline for the receipt of your child's school records, if available, is January 29th of next year.

Teacher Evaluations and Head of School Evaluation Due January 29th of next year

After you have submitted the online application, please visit the checklist in the parent portal. Enter email addresses for your daughters' current Math teacher, English teacher and Head of School and the confidential evaluation forms will be sent to the teachers automatically. You may confirm receipt of evaluation forms in the parent portal.

Attend an Optional Admission Event

We invite you and your family to join us on campus at one of our upcoming events. There are parent visits, a Middle/Upper School Preview Day, and campus tours available. You may RSVP online. If you are unable to attend one of these events and you live outside the Dallas Metroplex, please call the Office of Admission to arrange another opportunity to visit the school.

Please submit all of these items in the online parent portal by December 12th of current year.

Complete testing

Students can take either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Visit www.ssat.org to register for the SSAT. Please call 1-800-446-0320 for ISEE information and registration or register online at www.iseetest.org. For all applicants for whom English is their second language, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required in addition to the SSAT or the ISEE. For Grade 8 only, the TOEFL Junior can be a substitute for the TOEFL. For more information, please visit www.ets.org.

Schedule a visit to Hockaday

Contact the Office of Admission to schedule a visit to Hockaday. Prospective Residence students are welcome to participate in a Boarder Visit Program and attend classes the following day. Parents are welcome to visit classes, meet with faculty, tour campus, and attend programs during this time, as well. We have two Boarder Visits available. Thursday, December 10 - Friday, December 11, and Thursday, January 21 - Friday, January 22. Please contact Molly Averitt at maveritt@hockaday.org or 214-360-6522 to schedule a student visit.

Apply using the SAO

The Standard Application Online (SAO) is a standard online application supported by SSATB (Secondary School Admission Test Board). The Standard Application Online may be used if applying to more than one participating school. Click here to use the SAO.

Join us for a Boarding Family Visit

Boarder Visits will be held on December 10-11th of current year and January 21-22nd of next year

On Thursday evening, Hockaday will host a family dinner followed by an informative program. Prospective students are invited to return to campus Friday morning for a School visit and parents will participate in various programs and activities while their daughters visit classes for the day. Both parent and student interviews will be conducted at various times throughout the day on Friday, and the visit will conclude no later than 4:00 p.m. When you arrive, you will be given a personal schedule for the two-day visit.

Hockaday will also be hosting the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) on January 9, and 23rd of next year. If you would like for your daughter to test at this time, please visit www.iseetest.org to register.

You may wish to wear casual school clothes (no jeans) or a current school uniform when you attend classes the next day.
