At Pomfret, we are inspiring a new generation of students to add their own verse to the cannon of human thought. So take a look around. See what Pomfret is all about. And when you're ready — speak up. We'll be listening.
Step 1 » Request Information
The first step in the Pomfret application process is an "inquiry." Once you submit this inquiry form, we will add you to our database of prospective families. We will also send you an information packet.
Step 2 » Tours and Interviews
A campus visit (comprised of a tour and interview) is a required part of the application process. If a visit to Pomfret is not feasible, the Admissions Office may arrange an online interview, or an interview with a Pomfret representative living in your area. Chinese applicants should go here to learn more about interview options.
Step 3 » Testing
We require that all candidates submit test scores.
SSAT: for students entering 9th and 10th grade
PSAT, SAT, OR ACT: for students entering 11th, 12th, or postgraduate years
In addition, for students whose first language is not English, an English proficiency exam is required. The TOEFL is our preferred exam, and our code is 8141. For students who may have difficulty getting to a TOEFL testing site, Pomfret does accept the Duolingo English Test as a proficiency exam
Step 4 » Application
Online Application
Pomfret uses the Standard Application Online (SAO) for all candidates. SAO is also useful if you are applying to multiple schools. After we receive notice that you have begun the application process using the SSAT SAO, we will forward instructions to create your Pomfret Application portal, through which you can track the status of your application and receive your admission decision.
Please use your Pomfret Application portal to track your application as that is the most accurate format for what Pomfret has in your file.
Applications are due by January 15. A $60 fee is required for each domestic application. The fee is $125 for international students. If you are unable to complete the online application, please contact the Admissions Office to discuss your options.
Pomfret has a longstanding policy of nondiscriminatory admission of students. We admit students of any race, color, religious affiliation, national and ethnic origin, and without regard to disability, to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at our schools. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religious affiliation, national and ethnic origin, or disability in the administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic or other school administered programs.
Apply
Your application is just the beginning.
At last, you are ready to apply. By now you've probably made your list, rewritten your list, thrown out your list, and made your list again. You've weighed your options, sought the wisdom of others, and wondered if you are making the right decision. No matter how things turn out, the search is almost over, and your adventure is just beginning.

Financial Aid
If you are applying for financial aid, please be sure to review Affording Pomfret. Financial aid is primarily need-based and determined on a case-by-case basis. We ask applicants to submit all required forms to School and Student Services (SSS) by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). After their preliminary review, SSS then sends your application to us for review.
