All admissions to St John's College are at the discretion of the Heads of the five schools.

St John’s College is an independent school that fully embraces diversity, and in doing so reserves the right to accept any pupil at the school’s discretion.

Please take note of the criteria, admissions dates and processes to ensure applications are done timeously and correctly.

Admission is not automatic for any child and the school may ascertain that a pupil will thrive better in a different academic environment.

To apply for entrance to St John's Sixth Form, College, Prep, Pre-Prep or The Bridge Nursery School, please complete the online application below. An application fee of R500 is required to access the application form. The application process to St John's College is exclusively electronic.

Admission guidelines

The school heads are led by the following guidelines for preferential acceptance:

  • Siblings of pupils already attending the College, Prep, Pre-Prep or The Bridge Nursery School
  • Children of Old Johannians
  • Children of Anglican clergy
  • Transformation candidates
  • Parental financial stability
  • Parental community commitment
  • Academic ability and work ethic
  • Applicant pupils who display particular strengths in various fields
  • Applicant pupil’s behaviour record

All pupils receive automatic acceptance from The Bridge Nursery School into the Pre-Preparatory School, from the Pre-Preparatory School into the Preparatory School, and from the Preparatory School into Remove (Grade 8), provided the pupil and parents have a sound:

  • Work ethic
  • Behaviour record
  • Fee-payment record

The school heads have the right to review acceptance of a child at any time, including at Grade 000, Grade 0, Remove (Grade 8) and Sixth Form levels.

All admissions will be subject to both parent and pupils’ (where applicable) non-negotiable acceptance, of the following policy documents:
