Admissions is often viewed as a process veiled in mystery and confusion. But not at Fishburne. We’re eager to start a dialogue with you, be a reliable source of answers, and make the process as open as possible. After all, the more you know about the character of our school, the more confident you can be about your decision to apply here. We strongly encourage you to visit our campus to see if we’re a healthy fit for each other. And while you’re here, please inquire about both our “full board” and “five-day boarding” options.

The merits of our 5-Day Boarding option
Fishburne Military School was the first military school in Virginia to open its doors to FIVE DAY BOARDING for students who seek the camaraderie and focus of a boarding school while still enjoying the comforts and closeness of living at home on weekends.
In addition to adding flexibility to your schedule, the Five-Day Boarding option can save your family a minimum of $4,000/year on tuition and expenses and, coupled with existing discounts and scholarships, can make our boarding school education more affordable and convenient.
Whether your choose the Full Boarding option or the Five-Day Plan, you can be confident you’ll get the full benefit of the Fishburne experience.
It is the policy of Fishburne Military School to review and act on applications for admission on a nondiscriminatory basis without regard to race, creed or national origin. Fishburne administers its educational and admissions policies as well as need-based tuition assistance, loan and partial scholarship programs on the same nondiscriminatory grounds.
Imperative to a student’s acceptance is his desire to attend the school and his need for small classes and individual attention. Prospective Cadets must be amenable to discipline and to the development of good life skills and habits.
Once a prospective student and his family have read the brochure and this catalog, the next step is to complete an application and schedule a tour and interview. Every student must visit the school for an interview before acceptance can be effected. In cases where prospective students live out of state or outside the continental United States, it may be possible for the Office of Admissions to arrange for an online interview.
Test scores, official transcripts, discipline records, medical history and records of IEP/504 or other special education programs involving the student are required from a potential student’s former school. An unofficial transcript may be used during the preliminary portion of the application process.
Once the decision to apply for admission has been made by the prospective student and his family, the online application, which includes a signed Release of Records, must be completed fully and submitted to the Admissions Officer at the school. Once the applicant’s interview has been completed and all required documentation has been received, the Admissions Committee will notify the student’s parent or guardian of their decision regarding acceptance, usually within one week.
In reviewing an applicant’s case, the Admissions Committee considers two main points: what the school can do for the student; what the student can contribute to the school.
The school exists for the benefit of its students. Its business is helping cadets develop to their full potential. Therefore, the Admissions Committee’s first consideration is what the school can do for the applicant. A nonrefundable room deposit is due and payable following acceptance. Because of the competition for space within certain grades at Fishburne, this deposit serves to make certain the existence of a place for the applicant in the Corps of Cadets. The deposit is applied against tuition during the matriculation process.
Fishburne Military School complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and does not discriminate in admission or access to its programs or activities as long as the prospective student can, with minor adjustments, be provided an appropriate education within the Fishburne program.
