King’s Bruton is non-selective, and applications are welcome from all pupils who have the potential to make the most of the wealth of opportunities that King’s Bruton can offer. You are welcome to visit the School at any time, but I would encourage you do so at least two years prior to admission.
We are currently not running termly Open Mornings as we firmly believe that the best way to visit the School is to have an individual tour, tailor-made to your requirements. A typical visit will take between 1½ to 2 hours and include a tour of the School, a tour of one of the three girls’ or three boys’ houses and an opportunity to spend time with the Headmaster.
Should you wish to meet specific staff (Head of Sport, Director of Music, Deputy Head Sixth Form, Deputy Head Academic etc) this, too, can easily be arranged.
To reserve a place at King’s Bruton for your son or daughter, you are invited to complete the Registration Form below and pay a non-refundable fee of £100 (registrations from Hazlegrove pupils are exempt this fee). This does not guarantee a place at King’s Bruton, but it does move the process on to the next stage. The School’s Bank Details can be found on the Registration Form. If you have not visited the School at the point of registration you will need to contact the Registrar to book a visit.
Once registered, and prior to your child’s expected entry to King’s Bruton, the School will request a report from your child’s current school, to include predicted results in their public exams (such as Common Entrance for Year 9 entry or GCSEs for Year 11 entry). This report will form part of the process for making a formal offer of a place. Applicants for entry outside of these years do not usually sit exams and offers are based on school reports and an informal interview with the Headmaster.
Formal offers are made in writing based on school reports and an informal interview/meeting with the Headmaster. We ask you to complete the Parent/School Contract (Acceptance Form) and pay the £1000* deposit, at the very latest, by 1st October of the year prior to your son/daughter joining. This then guarantees your child a place at King’s the following academic year. House allocation is ultimately the decision of the Headmaster, but please be aware that occasionally some Houses fill faster than others, and therefore, early commitment/acceptance is advisable. Where a conditional offer is made (in the case of a Year 12/L6 entry, the offer would be based on GCSE results), those conditions must be met before the place is finally guaranteed
King’s Bruton continues to welcome pupils from all countries of the world and encourages applications from interested families and agents.
Our European and international pupils bring great benefits to the School in all aspects of school life. We have never differentiated school fees between UK, Europe or international pupils and continue to ensure the fees remain consistent across all nationalities. Boarding is an essential part of life at King’s Bruton, and currently boarders and day pupils are fully integrated into all of the Boarding Houses.
How to Apply
Overseas pupils apply via educational agencies or directly to the School. We assess applicants in several ways:
We may require a combination of these assessments, depending on the pupil’s previous educational background and the extent of information received from the previous schools.
Visas
All international students, including those coming from Europe, who come to study in the UK will now need to apply for a visa. The Child Student and Student visas have now replaced the Tier 4 (General) and Tier 4 (Child) student visas.
