We believe passionately in a rounded education and that’s why our admissions process is designed to allow children to showcase their true potential in whatever area that may be. Our assessments appeal to the intellectually curious and those prepared to ‘have a go’. They help us identify the children who will flourish at LWC and will enjoy being members of our happy and vibrant community.

Each year we welcome around 65 children into Junior House in Year 7 (1st Form), and 65 into the Senior School in Year 9 (3rd Form). In addition, each year students join us in the Sixth Form from other schools, both in the local area and from further afield.

Joining Year 7

First Form pupils join our fabulous Junior House, home to all our 1st and 2nd Form pupils. Surrounded by its own playing fields and gardens, Junior offers a nurturing environment with a wonderful sense of community, energy and fun.

For many pupils, their LWC adventure begins in Junior House. Whether joining from one of our excellent local primary or prep schools, or further afield, Junior is a nurturing space where children can be children, while benefitting from the fabulous facilities of a leading senior school.

The ideal time to register for a place is two years prior to entry.

All candidates who have registered are invited to sit the LWC Pre-Test, which can be taken either at their current school or at the College in the Autumn term of Year 6. For further information on the LWC Pre-Test,

In addition, all candidates are invited to our innovative assessment morning, which allows us to evaluate their full potential in creative thinking, problem solving, analysis and teamwork. For further information on our assessment morning,

We also request reports from current schools during the Autumn term of Year 6, and offers are made prior to the February half term of that year.

Our holistic assessments engage a wide range of learners, identifying where a child can excel through curiosity, and highlighting the ability to apply themselves to new ideas and problems. Our tests have been specifically designed to improve accessibility and level the playing field for children from all backgrounds.

The registration window closes on 1st December prior to the year of entry. If you miss this date, and we still have places available, we are happy to accept late applications. Please contact the admissions team to discuss this.

Joining our 3rd Form (Yr 9)

Pupils joining us in 3rd Form are all members of one of our seven senior houses, becoming part of a supportive and dynamic community which encourages curiosity, adventure and fun.

Around 65 children join us at Third Form and become part of a vibrant and exciting community that celebrates the qualities of each of its pupils. Whether boarding or day pupils, they enjoy the support of their Houseparent, their Resident Tutors, and of course their Matrons!

Joining our Sixth Form

A growing focus on life after school means that our Sixth Form pupils develop greater confidence and ambition as they prepare for university and beyond.

Our students consistently achieve excellent exam results, while still enjoying our extensive co-curricular programme and many leadership opportunities, making these two years at LWC very special indeed.

The LWC Sixth Form provides excellent preparation for the demands of university and adult life. Students are given the freedom to develop their independence, to explore new interests, and to rise to leadership opportunities, alongside their academic commitments.

Our current requirement for entry into the Sixth Form is a minimum of six Grade 5s at GCSE (or the equivalent), preferably with Grade 7s in the subjects to be studied at A Level. Places are offered on the basis of an interview with the academic team and Head of Sixth Form, academic assessment, predicted GCSE results and a report from the pupil’s current school.

The assessment process for the first round of offers takes place towards the end of the Autumn term, with offers made in January. Occasionally, a small number of places are available after this point. Please contact the admissions office to find out more.

International students

We welcome pupils from all over the world and have a thriving international community with students from America, Africa, China, Russia and many European countries.

The College really values the contribution international students make to the life our community.

To ensure pupils can thrive at the College, they will need a good level of written and spoken English. Pupils applying whose first language is not English may be asked to undertake an English assessment.

All candidates who have registered are invited to sit the LWC Pre-Test which can be taken online either at their current school or at the College.

Candidates will also have an interview with the Headmaster as well as a senior member of staff, such as a Houseparent or Head of Department. Whilst we would prefer to meet applicants in person, we are happy to arrange for these interviews to be held online.

Candidates entering at Sixth Form may be asked to sit tests in subjects they are proposing to study at A Level, and whilst they do not need to have taken an IELTS assessment prior to entry, the expected level of English for Sixth Form is IELTS 5.5+.

All students whose parents do not live in the UK are required to have a UK based guardian. This can be a family member or friend; they must, however, be contactable and able to accommodate the pupil in the case of an emergency and when school is closed, for example at half terms and exeat weekends.
