Welcome to Our Virtual Open Day

While you can't visit us in person at the moment, let us bring the school to you with our virtual open day. You can tour the school, check out our facilities, meet the Headmistress and the Head Girl all from the comfort of your home on a day and time to suit you.

We have compiled a series of videos to introduce you to school life at Bruton School for Girls, together with a link to our annual school magazine, The Gleam, and essential admissions information so everything you need is in one place.

Admission Process

We understand that choosing a school for your child is a very important and often difficult decision, and we want you to have as much information as possible.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ and there are many factors to consider to ensure you pick the school that is right for your child.

We hope to make this process easier for you by offering a personal, friendly and flexible approach to admissions, so that you can be sure Bruton School for Girls is where your daughter will be happy, because happy children thrive both personally and academically.

Girls normally join us at the start of the academic year in September, however we recognise that sometimes circumstances arise that prevent this from happening, therefore if we have a space available we are very happy to consider admissions at other times during the year.

We would welcome the opportunity to show you our school. Appointments for individual visits can be made at any time of the year. During your visit you will be taken on a tour of the school, usually by one of our students, and there will be a meeting scheduled with the Headmistress and/or Head of Prep. We recommend you allow 1½-2 hours for your visit.

Nursery Admission

We encourage all parents and children to visit the Nursery where you will be given a tour by the Nursery Manager and meet the children and staff.

Registration

To apply for a place at the nursery, please complete the registration form with payment of the non-refundable registration fee of £50 and a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport.

Settling-in and Taster Sessions

Once registered you and your child will be invited to spend some time in the Nursery during which your son/daughter will take part in the normal routines. As all children are unique, some will settle quickly and for others it will take more time and we fully understand this.

Early Years Entitlement

Children over the age of three years are eligible for the Early Years Entitlement the term following their third birthday. The school will deduct the entitlement from the fees. Sunny Hill Nursery does not accept funding for two year olds.

For eligible families, the Nursery will claim Early Years Entitlement (Universal and Extended) from Somerset County Council on your behalf, for the appropriate number of hours, each funding period. This funding covers the Early Years Foundation Stage. The Nursery provides additional services and facilities over and above the statutory EYFS guidelines, as agreed by Somerset County Council, for which a charge is made. These additional services include use of extensive grounds, specialist teaching staff for Forest School, music and swimming as well as weekly French activities, snacks and consumables. The Nursery also has the use of the Senior School facilities including the Hobhouse Theatre.

Universal & Extended Entitlement

All three and four year olds are entitled to up to 15 hours of funded early education or childcare a week (570 hours over a year). This is known as the ‘universal entitlement’.

We also accept Extended Early Years Entitlement (30 hours per week or 1140 hours per year) provided that parents meet the eligibility criteria. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure your eligibility code is reconfirmed and valid for each funding period and the updated codes submitted to the Nursery Manager.
