At Llandovery Prep we see the enormous benefits of a caring and supportive House system and every pupil, whether they are day or boarding, belongs to a House. This fosters the strong community and family feel of the school whilst providing an opportunity for pupils to be rewarded for great work, behaviour or good manners by earning points for their House. This promotes a strong sense of belonging and loyalty, giving all pupils a point of reference and a focus for deep bonds of friendship.
The House system provides greater opportunities for inter-House competitions, leadership and mentoring and your child will be surrounded by like-minded, positive role models where their academic education is supported by a holistic and well-rounded approach to building and expanding on life skills.
Ty Teilo - Junior Boys and Girls Boarding House
Our younger pupils’ Boarding House for ages 7 to 13 years provides a safe, secure and relaxed environment where friendships and strong bonds are formed. A dedicated House team cares for pupils in a wonderful home from home environment and it is a place where exceptional care is provided, young people can grow in confidence and a great deal of fun can be had.
The Junior House accommodates boys and girls, and boasts comfortable dormitories, kitchen facilities and communal areas, as well as easy and safe access to all College facilities. Boarders enjoy a full programme of evening and weekend activities that stimulate and enrich an outstanding experience. We warmly welcome occasional, weekly and full time boarding options to suit both pupils and families.
At Llandovery College we see the enormous benefits of a caring and supportive House system and every pupil, whether they are day or boarding, belongs to a House. To foster the strong community and family feel of the school we have a vertical House system where Senior School pupils are grouped together from Year 9 through to Year 13, rather than solely in Year groups.
This more traditional House system provides greater opportunities for inter-House competitions, leadership and mentoring as well as giving pupils the chance to stay in one House throughout their time at College. The House is a place where exceptional care is provided, young people can grow in confidence and a great deal of fun can be had.
The House system promotes a strong sense of belonging and loyalty, giving all pupils a point of reference and a focus for deep bonds of friendship. Each House has a team of tutors to manage and support pupils on a daily basis, led by the Housemaster or Housemistress who has lead oversight of the academic and pastoral progress of all the pupils in his or her care.
It is within the Houses that the vitality and vibrancy of the life of the College is found. House competitions develop loyalty and a sharper edge, and pupils compete in an eclectic range of competitions and events giving all pupils an opportunity to ‘have a go’ at activities and sports that would normally be outside their comfort zone.
Boarding Houses
We warmly welcome occasional, weekly and full time boarders. As a boarder your child will be supported by a caring, experienced team. We believe that the full boarding experience brings to each pupil a unique opportunity to explore their talents and develop within a caring and supportive community. Learning to live together is a valuable skill. The boarding setting is also a hive for forming new friendships, many of which will last a lifetime. Warm pastoral care, respect and compassion are at the core of the College ethos and this is most conspicuous in our Boarding Houses.
Led by experienced Housemasters, Mistresses and Tutor teams - with a 24 hour Medical Centre on site - boarding offers a home from home atmosphere and a support network that can help pupils develop in all aspects of their education. Most significantly, boarding allows pupils to access academic support in the evenings and many thrive under closer supervision and encouragement. Boarding is also great fun, with evening and weekend activities enriching the experience and deepening bonds of friendship and loyalty.
For boarders the day does not end at 5pm, nor does the week finish on a Saturday afternoon; boarding allows us the maximum contact time with every boy and girl. The partnership established between each child, their family and the school is one which enables academic progress and pastoral growth.
