St. Timothy’s is a ’round-the-clock experience that will enrich your life in countless ways. For boarding students, living here is a huge part of that experience. You’ll live in one of two residence houses – Carter House or Heath House – each of which offers a common room, a kitchen, a laundry room, computer facilities, WiFi, and other comforts of home. Quiet hours for study give you ample time and an ideal environment for the academic side of your life. A Head of House and House faculty members live with you, and they’re here to offer guidance and advice and very possibly a plate of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies when you’re elbow-deep in studying for finals. Day students have an open invitation to stay over for the night if they’d like – space is always available. At holiday time, day students return the favor, inviting classmates unable to get home to come stay with them and their families.
Life in the Houses is, well, lively, with activities that range from the organized (movie nights, cooking classes, yoga, and game nights, for example) to the spontaneous, which can include everything from pancake study breaks to sharing a bowl of popcorn with a new friend who’s from halfway around the world. Indeed, the diverse range of friends you’ll make is one of the best things about residential life – St. Timothy’s students come from 23 countries around the globe.
Residential life has valuable lessons to teach – about self-reliance, resilience, grit. You develop independence within a warm and friendly environment, and that’s great preparation for the academic and social transition to college. You learn to get along with others, take responsibility for your actions, and appreciate difference, all within a safe and supportive community.
St. Timothy's Residential Program comprises Carter House and Heath House, each of which includes a common room with wi-fi access, a kitchen for making snacks, and laundry facilities. Our youngest students, the Threes (freshmen), all live in Heath House for their first year, as it helps facilitate friendships and closeness within the class. Additionally, some upperclassmen, known as Prefects, live in Heath to provide leadership and guidance for the younger girls.
The Fours (sophomores), Fives (juniors), and Sixes (seniors) live in both Carter House and Heath House, along with House Faculty members and a Head of House for each.
There is no denying that St. Timothy's students lead very busy lives, especially during the school week. With this in mind, our Residential Life Programming is designed with several goals in mind: fun, relaxation, rest, socializing with friends, and catching up on studies.
Weekends at St. Timothy's always include a variety of options for off-campus outings. Day students often join in with boarders on weekend trips and activities such as:
In addition, every Friday and Saturday night there are activities in the Houses for girls who want to stay on campus. Popular recent programs inrclude: Make Your Own Pumpkin Spice Latte, a Bonfire with S'mores, Cartoon Night, Origami, Making Candy Apples, a Twister competition, a High School Musical sing-a-long, and decorating the Houses for the holidays.
