Boarding at Frewen College is safe, fun and inclusive. Our Boarding Houses reflects our commitment to create a warm, nurturing home for our students, and our excellent staff work tirelessly to ensure that this is achieved.
Boarders are offered the opportunity to take part in a wide range of after-school activities. These range from cookery to sports, from arts and crafts to music, and from computing to board games, to name a few.
Weekends are filled with an extensive recreational programme featuring activities such as paddle boarding, laser tag, crazy golf, London theatre trips, theme parks, swimming, bowling and cinema trips, as well as shopping in local towns. Activities are varied, appealing to both boys and girls, however special girls-only or boys-only activities are not unheard of - for example the girls-only spa and pamper party
Boarding Houses
Our two boarding houses, Brickwall House and The Warren have a relaxed, friendly atmospheres where boarders truly feel at ease. Both houses are located within the school’s grounds, where there is plenty of space to explore, play games and relax.
Boarders have high wellbeing and feel at the heart of the Frewen College community. Our family atmosphere creates a fun place to be, where everyone can strive to do their best. We do our upmost to ensure that all students will leave our school as well-rounded, confident young adults ready to face the next challenge.
Brickwall House accommodates boys from year 6 (subject to a suitable cohort) to year 13 within the magnificent setting of the old Jacobean house. Rooms range from single occupancy to 4-bed junior dorms, all with ensuite bathrooms and stunning views of our grounds. All boarders are encouraged to personalise their space within their rooms. The House is divided into a Junior and Senior side with age-appropriate books, games, DVDs and a smart television in each common room. Facilities also include kitchen areas where drinks and snacks can be prepared by the pupils to help them develop their personal independence.
The camaraderie and inclusive atmosphere allow all the boys to reach their goals at a pace that works for them. The house staff lead with a clear sense of structure and responsibility within the house, not only building resilience but allowing each boy to develop and fulfil their potential whilst creating and maintaining positive relationships.
The Warren is home to girls from year 6 (subject to a suitable cohort) to year 13. The Warren is a warm and fun house, full of laughter, that offers our girls a real home from home after a busy school day. The house has single and shared rooms, two appointed common rooms for the girls to socialise and enjoy each other’s company, a small kitchenette and lovely private garden.
The girls learn independence and social skills in a happy and positive boarding environment where the girls build strong lasting relationships. Alongside bake-offs and group bonding sessions, movie marathons and UNO championships are a regular occurrence!
Flexi-boarding
We are pleased to offer a flexi-boarding package to our families.
This convenient and flexible approach to boarding is designed to fit in with the needs of your family. Students can stay with us for just a few nights a week or for a few weeks at a time. The flexi boarding option means that we can mitigate the impact of busy work schedules or long commutes to school. It’s quite common for children to join us for a couple of nights each week, where this would be beneficial. It is also a great opportunity for students to develop their independence and confidence, allowing them to grow in maturity as they start to prepare for their life beyond School.
If you would like to find out more, or if your child is already at Frewen and you would like to arrange to visit or a taster night for your child, please contact us on 01797 252494 or email office@frewencollege.co.uk
Frewen International
With every passing year we are very happy to welcome more pupils (and staff!) from all around the world, provided that English is either their first language or a strong second language. We are of course registered with the UK Visa and Immigration Agency for overseas students.
Some of our pupils from overseas are foreign nationals, some are from expat families, and some in the Armed Services. We have pupils and staff from a wide range of countries throughout the world.
Location and Transport
We are very lucky with our location in that the historic Jacobean country house, around which the school has developed, is set in ancient parkland and beautiful gardens that for many typify rural England at its finest.
Although a rural setting, we are within reach of London, Canterbury and Brighton for boarding trips, while the coast is just a few minutes away, enabling a wide range of activities. Gatwick Airport is approximately 75 minutes by taxi, and Ashford International railway station, with high-speed trains to the Continent, is just 20 miles away. We are happy to support overseas parents with their transport arrangements.
Guardian arrangements
Students whose parents live overseas must have an adult guardian who lives in the UK (no more than 2 hours away) who will agree to be responsible for the pupil on behalf of their parents. This is often a relative, family friend, or the parents may elect to use a UK Guardian agency. It is essential that a guardian is appointed before any pupil joins us and that we have full contact details.
