Boarding in Cornwall

Here at Truro School in Cornwall, we love the fact that 80% of our county is surrounded by sea and our boarders take full advantage of the 300 miles of beautiful coastline, dramatic headlands and wild moorlands. Every weekend spells a chance to explore Cornwall and participate in activities such as Camel Trail cycle rides; Poldu Cove; Oasis fun pool; laser tag; quad biking; coasteering; Treasure Land; horse-riding and much more.

For our International Boarders, Cornwall offers a world of adventure and culture and we encourage them to embrace as much as they can during their time at Truro School.

Truro School is a warm, welcoming community characterised by constructive and trusting relationships, a place where talented and dedicated teachers educate pupils to be independent individuals. We believe that pupils’ abilities are not fixed and that through their learning they can each grow and develop intellectually, discovering new interests and talents. We champion a broad and balanced education that includes creative, cultural, spiritual and sporting opportunities alongside genuine academic rigour. As pupils progress through the school, they will also develop social skills, confidence and leadership qualities.

A Close-Knit Boarding Community
Boarding adds a special dimension to a Truro School education and is a thoroughly modern solution to 21st century family life. What boarders love most is being with friends and living together on our extensive campus not 5 minutes walk from the centre of Truro but at the same time being able to attend an excellent academic establishment where they know that all of their educational needs will also be met.

The Boarding Houses

We have three beautifully presented boarding houses close to the school campus and the City of Truro. There are two houses for girls, Malvern for senior girls and Pentreve for junior girls and one for junior and senior boys, Trennick.

Each house has a dedicated team of boarding staff, which includes a deputy Housemaster or mistress and a team of tutors, whose pastoral work is essential to maintain the smooth running of the boarding community and to enhance the quality of life of the pupils whilst they are in school. Boarding at Truro School is overseen by the Head of Boarding, Tom Copeland, who is also the Housemaster of Trennick House.

Each of our boarding houses accommodates between 15 and 35 pupils. This naturally creates a genuine, family environment where boarders support each other, and enjoy and share in each other’s successes.

The Houseparents and their teams ensure that the boarders are safe, happy, settled and cared for 24 hours a day. Boarding staff are also subject teachers at the school, adding another branch of support when it comes to evening prep and studies.

The boarding houses are continually being upgraded and developed on a rolling programme. All houses have their own separate recreation spaces, separate kitchens, bathrooms and IT suites.
