Financial Aid

We know paying for an independent school education is a significant commitment for prospective families. Canterbury is committed to enrolling qualified candidates from all socioeconomic backgrounds and accordingly offers a strong financial aid program based on each family’s demonstrated need. This past year, over five million dollars in aid was awarded.

Financial Aid applications will not affect admission decisions; they are considered separately. Financial aid is awarded only to students who have completed the Admission Office application process and have been officially accepted. Canterbury is unable to offer assistance to all applicants who qualify. Therefore some families are placed on a financial aid waitlist.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

Submit the Parents' Financial Statement

The parents of all financial aid applicants must complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) online through School and Student Services (SSS) by January 31. In cases of divorce or separation, both natural parents must complete the application.

Upload Required Documentation

Submit a signed copy of the family's last and year before last federal income tax returns, including all schedules, directly to SSS by January 31. If a student has filed a return, include a copy of his/her return as well. Also please submit a copy of all W2's by January 31. The federal income tax return must be submitted as soon as it is complete or by April 15 at the latest. This paperwork should be submitted online by directly uploading the documentation to the SSS website. If you are unable to upload, mail the required documentation to SSS directly. Please do not submit the documentation directly to Canterbury. Financial aid awards are contingent upon receipt of the federal tax documentation.

Completing the Process

A financial aid application file is considered complete when the Admission Office has received the Parents' Financial Statement and all supporting documentation. A request that is filed late may affect the family's chance of receiving aid for the coming year.
