Tuition

Boarding Tuition

  • Boarding Tuition: $48,000
  • All meals in the dining hall
  • Dormitory or homestay accommodations
  • Transportation during weekdays and on weekends

Additional required fees:

  • Student Life Fee ($3,000)
  • Comprehensive College/Career preparatory counseling
  • English Language Learning Services(Supported Study Hall, ELL and ELL History)
  • Technology Fee (iPad provided for each student)
  • On-campus residential health center support
  • SEVIS & I-20 Visa support services

Student Health Insurance ($1,800)

Thornton purchases the Gold Plan through ISM and plans are renewed annually. We require that each international student enroll in our health insurance plan to ensure that they are covered for any medical circumstance that may arise.

Student Account ($1,500)

Each student is required to have an account with the school for emergency funds, medical expenses, unexpected travel expenses, school required activities and room damage (if applicable). The account can also be used for yearbook, AP testing, TOEFL/SAT registration fees, etc. Remaining funds will be returned at the end of the student’s time at Thornton Academy.

Financial Aid

Qualifying for aid is a highly-individualized process. Household income, number of children, savings and other assets, along with many other factors, all play a role in evaluating a family’s financial need. Thornton Academy utilizes FACTS tuition Management to evaluate financial aid for day students. International students are invited to fill out the Application for Financial Aid document, which must be submitted in conjunction with the application for admission.

Financial aid at Thornton Academy is determined by a family's ability to meet educational expenses. Requests for financial aid need to be made at the time of application. The Admissions Committee is unable to consider requests for financial assistance after admission decisions are made. Any questions concerning qualifications for financial aid may be addressed to the Admissions Office at email or call.

Scholarships

Thornton Academy offers merit-based and other scholarships to our students. Our goal is to make a Thornton Academy education financially accessible to all interested students. All of these scholarships require a supplemental application process in addition to our regular financial aid process.

Pillars Scholarship

  • Available for new day students entering grades 6-12
  • Award amount: $2,500 (one-time)
  • TAMS (grades 6-8) deadline: April 15
  • Upper School (grades 9-12) deadline: July 15

Moulton Scholarship For Scarborough Residents

  • Available for new students entering grades 6-12
  • Must be a current resident of Scarborough, Maine
  • Award amount: varies
  • TAMS (grades 6-8) deadline: April 15
  • Upper School (grades 9-12) deadline: July 15

Trojan Scholarship

  • Available for Domestic and International students applying to the boarding program, grades 6-12
  • Award amount: ranges from $2,000 - $15,000

New England Scholarship

  • Available for boarding students entering grades 6-12
  • Must be a current resident of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Connecticut; and/or Maine vacation property owners
  • Award amount: $15,000
