As the oldest continuously run educational institution in Southern California, Loyola High School of Los Angeles remains committed to providing an academically rigorous, college preparatory education to a diverse group of young men who graduate prepared for lives of leadership and service to their community.Founded in 1865, Loyola became a Jesuit institution in 1911. The Jesuit philosophy of educating the whole person continues to permeate the school today.

Our student body of over 1,200 young men represents a strong diversity in geography, ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds. We draw from over 200 zip codes throughout and beyond Los Angeles County, while 46 percent of our students are of Latino, Asian-Pacific or African-American descent. One hundred percent of Loyola graduates go on to college or university.To foster “Men for and with Others,” Loyola students must complete at least 140 hours of community service before graduation, with many contributing nearly 200 hours. Over the past two decades, Loyola students have donated more than 1.7 million hours of community service, primarily to inner-city schools, neighborhoods and agencies.Loyola is a community in every sense of the word – in our commitment to the young men we are privileged to serve, in our active alumni association that embodies the philosophy of “Cubs for Life,” in our dedicated and extraordinarily talented faculty and staff, in our partnership with generous and visionary parents, donors and friends.

There is the one where debaters excel, athletes compete and writers create as well as the one where artists design, scientists analyze and thespians act. Loyola High School of Los Angeles, a Catholic Jesuit college preparatory school, inspires students to become men of faith, scholarship, service and leadership. Loyola’s core values include belief in and intentional effort toward imbuing:

• Faith – Loyola exists to give students of all faiths a profound, life-changing experience of God’s unconditional love and a deeper understanding of themselves as persons of faith.
• Jesuit / Ignatian Spirituality – Rooted in the Catholic faith, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius comprise the core of the Jesuit/Ignatian charism that focuses on loving service to one’s God and neighbor, in and through the discovery of one’s gifts and talents to be shared with the world.
• Formation of the Whole Person – Cura Personalis is a Latin phrase meaning “care for the person” that thoughtfully and intentionally integrates the fullness of human experience through the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social and physical development of our students during their four years at Loyola and beyond.
