Why VVS? Because we are the exception. The exception to the traditional model of education. The exception to high-pressured, high-stakes academic stress. The exception to a world of distraction and the barrage of technology. The exception to the norm, where being the same is celebrated.
Why VVS? Because within this community you become the exception.
Verde Valley School educates students for college and for life by encouraging them to become intellectually curious, academically accomplished and creatively expressive. The program fosters intercultural understanding and world citizenship, environmental stewardship, the value of physical labor, and service to humanity with a willing spirit.
Verde Valley School is committed to providing the best possible academic program, giving students the opportunities to excel academically, while learning to become independent, thoughtful and responsible members of a community.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide our students with the best possible academic program, VVS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, and offers the IB curriculum to all our juniors and seniors. 9th and 10th grade students are enrolled in our pre-IB curriculum, the 9th and 10th grade foundation.
Our hands-on, project-based, student-centered approach to the IB ensures that students become directors of their learning process, guided and mentored by skilled teachers. Our IB diploma pass rate is consistent.
Our graduates have been accepted into universities and colleges large and small, liberal arts schools, art colleges, research universities and more. They find the school that best fits their educational and life goals.
At VVS, citizenship, courage and a commitment to the improvement of the world are our standards. Our graduates are ethical, possessed of a strong sense of personal and social responsibility, skilled in ways that will enable them to participate effectively in community building and decision making, and appreciative of the necessity and value of physical work. They are open to the discovery and enduring satisfactions of artistic creation, knowledgeable about the depth and range of our shared cultural heritage, prepared for entry into the college of their choice. Our community is generous in spirit, mindful of the importance of citizenship and ready to practice its privileges and obligations. Our standards are set beyond our everyday grasp. But they are not beyond our reach. How did such ambitions take root? Consider our history and its continuing challenge.
Why VVS? Our community, guiding principles, awe-inspiring location and commitment to being the change we wish to see in the world are just a few answers to this big question. What does this look like?
Our community strives to understand different points of view, celebrates differences, and learns to challenge our own belief systems. We take service to others seriously, ensuring our involvement in the local community, state, and world is intentional and meaningful.
In an ever-divisive world, the VVS community gathers from all over the world to prove that there is a better way. We learn together, we debate, we grow, and we change for the better. It was the vision of our founders in 1948, and continues to be a cornerstone of who we are today.
At VVS, we understand that education must have purpose and be challenging. Our teachers and students collaborate, engage, and create a learning experience that goes beyond the classroom. All learners have a voice and are supported to reach their personal potential.
We also play, explore, surround ourselves in nature and learn that a balanced life equals a healthy, happy life.
We believe, teach, and lead by example that success isn’t measured by a number or a grade, but in how we use our own individual gifts to make the world a better place. This may mean studying medicine at a top college or dedicating a gap year to international service; It may be an artist developing their craft, or a student aspiring to attend law school to fight for those without a voice.
