William Carey Christian School was founded in 1984 with only 4 students as the realisation of the vision of a small group of committed families who saw the need for a Christian school in the Liverpool and Campbelltown region. Since this small start in a local church hall, we have grown to become a Prep to Year 12 co-educational school community of over 1300 students, offering a wide range of learning opportunities, and challenging and supporting all of our students to excel in their own growth and success.
William Carey Christian School is committed to transforming lives by the proclamation of the gospel and the delivery of an excellent, Christian education; accessible to the whole community. Our students grow in understanding of living God’s way in God’s world as God’s image. We offer a wide range of subjects that are taught with a biblical perspective. Students participate in Biblical Studies lessons and experience the positive impact Christian lives have on others.
Learning is the focus of all activity. All our students are well-known and are encouraged to learn with a growth mindset. Learning occurs through ICT-rich, differentiated, and engaging programs, delivered by teachers who are well informed by student data and evidence-based educational research. We offer a wide range of sporting and extracurricular opportunities to complement the subjects taught in class.
Students learn best in an inclusive, supportive and safe learning community and environment. Our school’s pastoral care and welfare programs equip and support students in their learning, promoting a strong sense of belonging and in building godly relationships with each other and the community, to meet life challenges now and in the future.
We firmly believe that schools have a key role in partnering with families to prepare students for adult life in a rapidly changing world. As such, our students learn how to learn and develop attributes that will equip them well for their future. We work alongside families to develop in our students the attributes of understanding, creativity, clear communication and collaboration, respect, service and leadership, and in making wise and courageous choices. This holistic approach to student learning provides a strong start to life.
Our school’s motto, “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God” was coined by William Carey, who devoted his life to mission in India and is considered to be the “father of modern missions”. We trust in what God has done and has promised to do and, in turn, we inspire our students to respond and trust in God and the gifts he has given them, so as to grow and excel at school and to attempt great things now and in their futures.
William Carey Christian School is a community that has the gospel at its heart, therefore, we intentionally care for and support each other. Through a partnership with parents and carers, WCCS engages young people in the highest quality learning activities whilst promoting well-being and respect.
At Carey, we value and empower families and staff alike. We encourage students to be lifelong learners by ensuring that our staff also actively engage in continuous learning through professional development and researching best practice. Our teachers are passionate and knowledgeable about their subject content, and they know each of their students well.
The foundation of WCCS rests on the philosophy of head, heart and hands, which encompasses a holistic approach to the Bible. Within this approach, we recognise that knowledge (head), passion (heart) and actions (hands) are of equal importance in living a life of Christian integrity. WCCS parents regularly comment on the fact that our school is an intentionally nurturing environment, in which all staff actively care for students and their families. Our priority as educators is to set our students up for life by catering for their individual needs.
