Ysgol David Hughes serves the south east Anglesey catchment, a predominantly agricultural area with some light industry characteristic of the area.

This is a bilingual comprehensive school with approximately 1140 pupils aged 11-18 and approximately 79 teachers as well as 49 support staff.

We aim to provide pupils with a broad education that includes the elements of communication, literacy, numeracy, science, humanities, expressive arts, practical skills and technology. Many topics use aspects of information technology and we have made significant investment in this area in recent years.

The school also has a modern sports center which includes a dance hall, fitness room and a large sports hall. This center is open to the public in the evenings and at weekends.

Pupils have the opportunity to contribute to decision making through Year and School Councils.

Our aim at Ysgol David Hughes is to provide the best possible education for the pupils. Above all, we wish to base our whole system on the concept of respect - the respect of the school towards the pupil, the respect of the pupil towards other pupils, respect for the bilingual community of the school and respect for the future of the community served by the school. school.

Each pupil is considered to be an important member of Ysgol David Hughes. We place an emphasis on high academic standards, which means that the individual realizes his or her potential. We encourage all our pupils to succeed whatever their ability. We also hope to broaden horizons through a number of extracurricular school activities, develop social awareness through our efforts on behalf of charities, expand thinking through the experience of overseas visits, gain an understanding of the local community through our work experience and business enterprise programs.

We hope to emphasize discipline and primary care for the individual through our pastoral system. This will be supported by the development of a detailed transition plan from primary to secondary school.

In recent years the school has invested heavily in technological equipment and resources that provide pupils with the necessary skills to meet the challenge of the new millennium. Emphasis is placed on the library's resources which are essential to meet GCSE coursework / controlled assessment requirements. Our science and technology departments place great importance on the practical nature of their subjects. Within geography and humanities, emphasis is placed on fieldwork, and the English and Welsh departments regularly arrange visits to local and national theaters.

In seeking to develop the whole pupil we believe that expressive arts (Music, Art and Drama) are important and we are proud of our achievements in these areas. These can be measured in terms of school courses, our public performances and pupil success in the media, the Youth Orchestra of Wales and the numbers who have gone on to pursue a successful career in the arts.

The idea of a partnership between teacher and pupil, school and home is fundamental to the above. One of the school's greatest strengths has always been its caring, open and happy ethos where pupils feel at home and enjoy their education in the bilingual environment in which they are part.

In this prospectus there has been an attempt to describe the organization and philosophy of the school in more detail. We hope you find this information useful and that you are keen to join the partnership to promote the ideal the school embraces.
