Admissions Process

Step 1: Required for Admissions Committee Review

  • Applications for Admissions (link to the application)
  • Most Recent Standardized Test Scores (if test scores are not available, please consider a local testing center in your area)
  • Attendance and Discipline Report
  • Most Recent Report Card/Proof of Elementary School Completion (if entering as a freshman)
  • Official Transcript- (if entering as a sophomore, junior, or senior) Submit a "Transcript Request Form" to your current school. We understand that this is not your final/official transcript. Your final/official transcript will be requested once you have completed the year. Submit this form, signed by the parent, to the registrar/principal of your current school.
  • Evaluations- A personal evaluation from each of the following should be mailed/faxed directly to the Director of Admissions (registrar@sva-va.org/540-740-3336): -Math Teacher- -English Teacher- -Pricipal, Vice-Principal or Guidance Counselor- -Other (non-family member who knows the student well. This is used if teachers are not available)-
  • Personal Statement (Link to form. Must be in the student's own writing)

Upon Completion of Step 1, The Application Will Be Reviewed For Acceptance.

  • SVA Student Aid - If you wish to apply for SVA Student Aid, complete the application linked here and return it along with the first two pages of your federal 1040 form.
  • FACTS Tuition Managment - All families are required to enroll with FACTS for tuition payment processing. Enroll by clicking the FACTS link at the bottom of the payment plans page or here.
  • 2-Way Church Matching Form - Submit form to your church. Approved amount will be needed when preparing your financial plan.
  • Complete the Voluntary Wage Assignment Form and Financially Respnsible Form.

Admissions Philosophy

Students in grades nine through twelve who demonstrate a definite interest and commitment to receiving a Christian education and supporting the mission, philosophy, and objectives of SVA will be considered for admission. Shenandoah Valley Academy admits students of any race, color, national origin, creed, religion, gender, or age. No discrimination is made in administration of educational policies, applications for admission, scholarship or loan programs, athletic or extracurricular programs.

Only those students who show respect in attitude and behavior for the word of God, maintain a reverent attitude toward that which is spiritual, agree to abide by the policies and standards of the Academy, and conduct themselves in harmony with the standards of Christian education as upheld by the Seventh-day Adventist Church should apply for admission to Shenandoah Valley Academy.

Campus Visit

A campus visit and an interview is an essential part of the admissions process. It is helpful for the Admissions Office to have as much information about the applicant as possible prior to visiting. Whenever possible, both parents are encouraged to be present. Please call the Admissions Office (540-740-2206) to schedule a visit; we will help in any way we can.

Official Transcripts & School Records

The parents or guardian should complete the Release of Transcript and School Records form and submit it to the applicant’s current or last attended school. It is helpful if an unofficial copy of the transcript or recent report cards can be brought to the campus visit.

Educational/Psychological & Diagnostic Testing

If current (within two years) educational/psychological or other diagnostic testing related to the applicant’s aptitude or achievement is available, please forward copies to the Admissions Office. Further testing may be required.

International Students

International applicants requiring a student visa I-20 must submit a notarized copy of the parent’s current bank account to show proof of financial support. Second language applicants should submit official TOEFL iBT scores. The application fee for applicants is $200, due to the additional cost of correspondence and processing.

All documents, including transcripts, must be notarized English translations. Transcripts must include a description of each course, the grade and credit issued for the course. All international students must have an approved guardian living near SVA before final acceptance. The guardian must accompany the student at registration.

How to Apply

Applying is easy using our Online Application. We encourage families to apply online as it simplifies submission and provides parents a tool for tracking the status of their admission after their application has been submitted.

Admissions ProcessFollow the steps in order to complete the Admissions Process.

  • Create an Account
    • Save your username and password for future use.
  • Open A New Student Application
    • Log into your account and follow the steps listed. You will then have the flexibility to log in and out of your account and access your open application.
  • Complete the Application
    • Once completed, the Submit Application and Make Payment tab will appear. Please follow the instructions that will be provided to submit the application along with the non-refundable $50 application fee.
  • Application Packet Forms needed for review by the Academic Admissions Team.
    • Parents will be notified once the application has been reviewed for acceptance.
  • Registration Forms — Avoid long lines on registration day!
    • This is sent from ZippSlip to parents.
  • Create Parent FACTS SIS Account — Grants parents access to student’s academics, communicate with staff/faculty, view attendance, etc.
    • This is sent from the FACT SIS system to parents after acceptance.

Click Apply Now to go to our Online Application page and begin the process. The process involves the following:

1. Applicant's Personal Statement

This form is a part of the application and should be completed by the applicant in his/her own handwriting without any other help and is meant to represent the applicant’s best work.

2. Recommendations

Parents and the applicant should complete the appropriate sections on the English teacher, Mathematics teacher, Principal/Head/Counselor, and personal reviews before distributing them to the appropriate people, along with stamped envelopes addressed to Shenandoah Valley Academy Admissions Office. The reviewers should return the forms directly to the Admissions Office.
