Tuition and Fees for Current Year
International Students: See our website or Bulletin/Handbook for details of these charges.
Shenandoah endeavors to instill the value of work and develop strong work ethics in each of our students. We believe that students must be taught that life requires earnest work responsibilities.
The work of our students varies from dishwashing in the cafeteria to housekeeping in the dorms. Freshmen/Sophomores typically work a minimum of 6.5 hours per week and can expect to earn approximately $1,350 per school year, after tithe. Juniors/Seniors typically work a minimum of 10.5 hours per week and can expect to earn approximately $2,000 per school year, after tithe. Because of the limited work opportunities on our campus, community students that are 16 years of age and above will be provided work opportunities at SVA as they are available. Student earnings above the amount estimated in their Financial Plan will be used to reduce the amount of SVA's student aid given.
Parents may choose one of the following payment plans for their portion of the student charges:
Full Payment at Registration
The final amount due for the year cannot be assured at Registration due to unknowns, such as the amount from Student Labor and other charges that may occur during the school year.
Two Semester Payments
The first semester payment is due at registration. Second semester payment is due on January 1 each year. The final amount due for each semester cannot be assured at Registration due to unknowns, such as the amount from Student Labor and other charges that may occur during each semester.
Ten Monthly Payments
Under this plan, parents will pay the Registration Fee, one month of tuition charges, one month of cafeteria, room and laundry charges, and a $100 room deposit at the time of Registration. The balance will be paid in nine payments September-May.
Twelve Monthly Payments
Parents will pay the annual projected net amount due from the parents in 12 equal payments. The first payment is due on July 5 and the last of the 12 payments is due on June 5.
FACTS Tuition Management
SVA contracts with FACTS Tuition Management Company for the automatic debit of your monthly tuition payments from your checking, savings, or credit card. Please be assured that neither FACTS nor SVA will have direct access to or any knowledge about the status of your bank account. It is simply a preauthorized bank-to-bank transfer of funds.
We require all of our new families to enroll in the FACTS program. You may choose either the 5th or 20th day of the month as your automatic debit date. If you have any questions, please contact our Student Accounts Manager, Cindy Champion, at 540-740-2228 or by email at cindy.champion@sva-va.org.
SVA's student account's manager will contact FACTS with your monthly payment amount after you have completed your FACTS enrollment and your financial plan has been agreed upon by both you and SVA.
Approximately one-half of our students receive Student Aid and the average amount is 25 percent of total costs. Several types of financial aid are available to SVA students based on academic qualifications and financial need. If applying for financial aid, parents are required to submit the SVA Application for Student Aid to our Business Office (Attn: Cindy Champion) along with the first two pages of your federal 1040 form.
Applicants for financial aid are required to submit standardized test scores, such as SSAT, ITBS, PSAT, PLAN, or scores from other standardized exams. Copies of scores from these exams should be sent to the Director of Admissions at SVA.
