Our Boarding House is located on the Senior School campus in Macquarie Street and is home to girls from years 5 to 12 and from all parts of Tasmania, interstate and overseas.

Collegiate has a long history of providing a home away from home for its boarders. All our staff are committed to creating a warm and caring environment within the Boarding House.

We understand the importance of knowing each student as an individual, which is why our Boarding House offers a nurturing environment where respect towards others and a happy community atmosphere prevails. The Boarding House runs smoothly under the care of the Director of Boarding, Miss Mika Browning who is supported by six staff members. All staff value and apply a sensible and monitored approach to the care of students – an approach supported by the Principal, who takes an active and personal interest in all Boarders.

The Boarding House sits amidst an expanse of green lawns and established gardens, ensuring there’s always somewhere to play or relax. Collegiate Boarders also enjoy facilities including our indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, performing arts centre, music and dance studios, student centre, and library.

To support strong and balanced lifestyles we promote a healthy social atmosphere, girls are regularly engaged in craft projects, dining out, cooking, excursions and movies to name but a few of the activities offered. The Boarding House also has a good selection of games and puzzles, a piano, Lego, sewing machine, WiiU, sporting equipment and bikes to keep Boarders busy after school and on weekends. Conveniently, we are also only a short stroll from Hobart’s renowned art galleries, Salamanca precinct, shops, theatres and restaurants.

A popular figure in and around the Boarding House is our resident four-legged cavoodle, Phyllis. Named after one of Collegiate's early Principals, Phyllis contributes to our homely atmosphere and is a source of laughter and comfort for all our girls.

The Boarding House Handbook (below) will help you to understand our routines and how we live together. This unique experience enables girls to form many lasting and valuable friendships with other students and with staff.

Casual and Day Boarding

Casual boarding and day boarding are available for day / local students. Day boarding services are provided from the end of the school day to the end of Boarders prep time (8:30pm). This allows day / local students to use the Boarding House for after-school activities, to join in the evening meal and to have supervised homework with the Boarders.

Casual boarding is provided for current day / local students, from Year 5, requiring accommodation for short periods - from one night to one term.
