Queen Margaret College

Queen Margaret College is an elite private girls’ school, with onsite luxury boarding house. The college is located at the heart of Wellington – New Zealand’s vibrant capital city and the creative and political heartbeat of our nation. The grounds provide a tranquil setting for our students and staff amid the bustling city, with our beautiful historic buildings juxdaposed by modern purpose-built facilities it creates an inspiring learning environment. For over 100 years we have created a culture of curiosity and exploration. From academia to arts, sports and science, our students embrace all aspects of school life with enthusiasm and respect.

Our new boarding hostel, Queen Margaret House, caters for domestic and international students. The 42 room hostel is the only all girls accommodation of its kind in Wellington, situated in the heart of the city. Available to students in years 7-13, Queen Margaret House offers our students a well-supported learning environment, and the opportunity to establish life-long friendships.

QMC is renowned for academic excellence in the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) offered to Years 1-13. After receiving an outstanding result from our Five-Year IB Review, we are confident we will continue our success in providing leading education and creating passionate life-long learners. QMC is proud to have a 100% pass rate for eight out of the nine years since the IB Diploma was introduced. This is even more impressive as, unlike many schools, QMC does not preselect students on academic ability. Our average is IB score is 36. We maintain continuous data tracking which closely monitors student progress, and extra academic support is given if required. As a small school (700 in total) individual time and attention can be given to each student to ensure her academic success; staff know every girl well and can help to develop each students talents. Senior classes have 2 to 12 students.

We have over 50 nationaltiites in attendance at the college so our students make friends from all over the world. We ensure that our girls emphasize kindness and good behaviour in all aspects of their lives, at QMC we pride ourselves on teaching our students to become global citizens. Students study etiquette (soft skills) as well as Speech and Drama to ensure cultural understanding, success in new social situations and job interviews. We believe in the importance of girls’ education and we develop leadership skills. With the support of inspiring female role models, girls flourish – and they are not overshadowed, nor distracted by boys.
